Rock Canyon and Forest City
August 29, 2010 by Froggie
I spent the earlier part of last week in bed trying not to move from a migraine. I was feeling so much better this weekend I craved getting out into the great outdoors. First we took a quick jaunt up Rock Canyon.

Looking towards Utah lake from the Rock Canyon entrance

Do you see the dragonfly up above?

They call it Rock Canyon for a reason

The canyon is just to the east of the LDS Provo Temple

Tried to get JK to pose but he was too busy sniffing out this little indentation

Acorns!

Fascinating Rock upcroppings and formations

More nearly vertical rocks
Not content with one canyon, we determined to head back up east of Tibble Fork reservoir and hunt down Forest City, an old abandoned mine town that has a grave yard flat I’ve always wanted to see. We went bouncing and trouncing and trudging for miles. We reached an old mine repository and sensed we were close to the town. But no dice. We will have to try again later.

On top of the world......somewhere up high above Tibble Fork

Old mine repository

Truly a bit of heaven

We trudged several miles on this road

Lots of butterflies, dragonflies and meadow flowers

The long and winding road

Don't try this road without a 4 wheel drive or ATVs

You missed the road to Forest City. Check out my map and description – http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&t=k&msa=0&msid=114000319739520281806.00048f09ecf216ebd04b0&ll=40.518758,-111.598778&spn=0.12632,0.22007&z=12.
On a side note, if you follow the road past the the mine waste repository, it winds up the hill to the west – Miller Hill. At the top is a single grave, with a sign and a white picket fence. There are a few closed mines about a 1/4 past the grave. At the top you can see the Snowbird tram.
