Several interesting events happened this past week. Jessica got her first car, and she is over the moon about it. A 2008 Mazda3, black just like she wanted it. Six months it has taken to get this car. I tried for the longest time to talk her out of the mazda as I just don’t think they are that grand of a car. Then I called Andy and he thought as I did about the whole thing, but Jess wouldn’t have anything of it, so we finally broke down and took her to a mazda dealership. I believe in all of my visits to dealers, this is the first one that was strictly mazda. Anyhoo, an hour of test drives and negotiating and we walked away with a new mazda for $14,5. I am pretty strict about not buying new. This vehicle had a previous owner, but he only put 3,000 miles on it so it was technically new, but we were able to negotiate a bit better for the price. Jess had saved up to put $4500 down on it. And she is in love. Her payments are only $230/month.
The other thing that happened was that we got our tax refund back last week so we went and bought a new couch! My old one had two recliners on the end of it, and both recliners have been broken for nearly six months. Driving me crazy. So I decided to try a new look with a leather/chocolate look, and got an entertainment center to match. This is the first time I’ve gotten such dark furniture, but it really looks good against the lighter colors of the room. I have to tell you the oddest thing though! On Tuesday when the truck arrived (we buy all of our stuff at John Paras furniture), this giant of a man came to the door. While I was thinking John Paras was smart to have such large men moving their furniture, Jeff got to talking with him and lo and behold, it was Fred Roberts, who used to play for the NBA in the 80’s. He’s 6’10”, indeed a giant. Very nice and affable. I couldn’t figure out why in the world he was delivering furniture but was too afraid to outright ask in the event he had fallen on hard times. He lives in Alpine, which is millionaire land, and his son goes to Lone Peak. In fact, his son is currently in Disneyland with Kayla. They are in the same acapella group and they left for CA on Wednesday to perform out there and will be back on Monday night.
Another (not so) exciting thing that happened is that Jeff and I got the flu. And then Kayla, although I think she would have gone to Disneyland in a wheelchair rather than not go at all. And then Jess, and Chance and Justin. But Jeff and I were the worst with the flu. Jeff was out 4.5 days this week. I was just out, period. This was no inocuous flu bug. We had the deep, rattling, rumbling, painful on fire chest cough, we had congestion in the eyes and nose, pressure in the ears, aches, pains, fevers, extreme fatigue. It’s just been an awful time. I have such wonderful friends like Dianne and Kate who call me and ask if I need soup and such. But I think I am turning a corner….here on Sunday morning. I’m just really grateful for flu meds.
